The Rise of the Medical Emergency, Pt. 84 - Sept 2nd - Sept 4th Reports
From an Australian Antarctic outpost to a Pennsylvania high school, a random assortment of medical malaise coupled with real-world reactions to the burgeoning trauma awaits. It's TROME
1) Icebreaker, 2 helicopters used in perilous Antarctic rescue mission as researcher falls ill
‘Australian rescuers have successfully evacuated a researcher who fell seriously ill at a remote Antarctic outpost, but it required a unique and daring evacuation mission. The man in question had an undisclosed "developing medical condition" and the mission required an emergency medical rescue team, a huge icebreaker ship and two helicopters to retrieve the man from extremely isolated territory on the icy continent’
‘The man in question had been working at the Casey research station, one of three permanent research outposts in Antarctica managed by the Australian Antarctic Division.’
2) Gallatin Co. Sheriff Search and Rescue helps hiker during medical emergency near Big Sky
‘BIG SKY, Mont. — Gallatin County Sheriff's Search and Rescue and Big Sky Fire Department helped a hiker experiencing a medical emergency outside of Big Sky Friday morning.’
‘Volunteers from the Big Sky Section, along with Big Sky Fire Department, responded to the scene.
Crew members drove a side by side up the trail to the patient and transported to the trailhead.
The Big Sky Fire Department transported the patient by ambulance to Bozeman Health Big Sky Medical Center for medical evaluation.’
3) Female inmate dead after apparent medical emergency at St. Joseph County Jail
‘The Indiana State Police has been requested to investigate the death of an inmate at the St. Joseph County Jail.
State Police were contacted around 5:40 p.m. on Sunday, Sep. 3, after jail staff were alerted to a female inmate suffering from what is suspected to be a medical emergency.
Life-saving efforts were taken by jail staff until emergency medical technicians arrived. Despite life-saving measures by jail staff and EMTs, the inmate was pronounced deceased at the jail.
An autopsy is scheduled to be performed on Tuesday, Sep. 5, at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan.’
4) Angels transfer catcher Max Stassi to restricted list, cutting more payroll
‘OAKLAND — Max Stassi has missed the entire season on the injured list, but his absence no longer has anything to do with baseball.
The Angels placed the catcher on the restricted list, effective Saturday, because Stassi “informed the Angels that while he is in position to resume activities to return to MLB, he has voluntarily chosen not to do so for the remainder of the 2023 season as a result of a serious family medical issue,” according to a statement from the team.’
Wow. Family sick leave, huh? What does that look like?
‘The impact of the move is that the Angels will not be responsible for the rest of Stassi’s $7 million salary in 2023.’
Probably not nothing to worry about.
‘Stassi, 32, was in a position to be one of the Angels’ catchers, but he suffered a hip injury just before Opening Day. Around the same time, he began dealing with a family medical emergency that has persisted through the entire season.’
Hm.
5) Rutgers assistant coach misses Northwestern game due to medical emergency
‘Rutgers is down an assistant coach for Sunday’s game against Northwestern.
The CBS broadcast shared that Scarlet Knights defensive line coach Marquise Watson suffered a medical emergency Sunday morning.’
6) Pregnant Kourtney Kardashian gives major health update after medical emergency
‘On September 1, Travis Barker’s band Blink-182 reportedly announced postponing many of his European tour shows in the light of “urgent family matter.”’
‘Kourtney Kardashian, who is currently expecting a baby, has finally returned home after she went to the hospital last week.’
‘In addition, [Barker’s ex-wife] also opened up that this “urgent matter” did not involve their kids.’
I guess the headline was clickbait. Something’s going on.
7) American Airlines Boeing 787 Diverts Back Over The Atlantic Due To Medical Emergency
‘Travelers on an American Airlines flight that departed from Philadelphia to London on Thursday had an unexpected stopover in Newfoundland, Canada, after a passenger fell ill.’
‘AA728 was initially set to depart from Philadelphia at 23:08 on August 31st, eventually taking flight at 02:07 the following morning. The flight operated with its expected flight path for the first four and a half hours before a medical incident required the pilot to decide to make a u-turn and head for the nearest hospital.’
4 1/2 hours into the flight. Ouch.
‘After turning around, the aircraft flew back two hours to Gander just before 09:00, located in the Canadian province of Newfoundland, where the passenger could seek medical advice.’
2 hours back. Well, that’s a little better.
‘To make matters worse, a decision was made for the flight to return to Philadelphia instead of its initial destination of London Heathrow, and passengers were left waiting in Gander for most of the day, until eventually departing at 20:24 local time, before returning to the city of brotherly love (Philadelphia) at 21:23.’
Nevermind.
8) Medical emergency causes single-vehicle rollover crash in Charlotte
‘CHARLOTTE — A 26-year-old woman from Huntington was involved in a single-vehicle rollover crash in Charlotte yesterday.
The crash took place on Hinesburg Road at around 5:50 p.m.
According to the report, Sarah Williams was traveling west on Hinesburg Road and appeared to experience a medical incident resulting in her vehicle entering the northern shoulder.
The vehicle rolled over into a ditch next to the shoulder before coming to a position of uncontrolled rest approximately five feet off the road.’
A “position of uncontrolled rest.” I don’t know what that means.
‘Williams was transported by Charlotte Fire and Rescue to the University of Vermont Medical Center for injuries.’
9) Passenger killed, driver hospitalized after crash in James City County
‘According to police, the car was traveling eastbound on Old Stage Road when it exited the road and crashed. Witnesses reported that the car stopped unexpectedly before accelerating off the road into an embankment. It overturned, and returned to the roadway.’
Wow. The car stopped in the road, and then just zoomed off into the embankment so hard it flipped over and went back onto the road. Dang.
‘Police don't know why the car stopped and left the road, but said a medical emergency may have been a factor.’
10) Minneapolis girl, 11, drowns while swimming in Lake Nokomis
‘An 11-year-old girl who drowned Saturday while swimming in Lake Nokomis has been identified as Jocelyn Sanchez-Rosas of Minneapolis, authorities said.
Emergency responders recovered her body late Saturday evening after getting a report of a girl who had disappeared under water while swimming on the east side of the lake.’
‘The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's office said the girl died shortly after 9 p.m. and ruled the death an accident.’
Is that how drownings tend to happen? You’re just swimming along and then you go under? I don’t know, man. I don’t think so.
11) Surfer found unresponsive in water at Waikiki
‘A man in his 60s is in critical condition after he was found unresponsive at a surf break in Waikiki on Satruday afternoon, the Honolulu Emergency Services Department reported.
First responders received a call around 2:15 p.m. about the man, who had been surfing at the Publics surf break in Waikiki.
A Honolulu Ocean Safety lifeguard brought the man to shore with the assistance of fellow surfers. Other lifeguards provided CPR for the man, and Honolulu Emergency Medical Services personnel later took over with advanced life support and transported him to an emergency room.’
12) Man saved by Washington State Ferry workers, fellow passengers at Edmonds Ferry Terminal
There’s a video report in the link article. It’s worth watching. The guy they interview tells the story, and it looks like he tells it in situ, and it’s pretty harsh.
I noted the guy looks pretty ruddy. Same look Trump has these days. The rough, reddish skin in the center of the face.
‘EDMONDS, Wash. — KING 5 spoke with one Washington State Ferry worker who helped save a passenger's life at the Edmonds Ferry terminal. The worker was one of a handful of others who stepped up and administered CPR until paramedics arrived.
"They wheeled him out of here with his eyes open,” said Grayem Leigh. “That was quite a day on the job."’
‘Leigh has been working at the Edmonds Ferry Terminal for the last year and a half. His primary job is directing traffic. But on Aug. 26, it became something much more after one passenger getting on the Spokane Ferry suddenly, "... Just stopped. Fell backwards and hit his head," said Leigh.’
‘Leigh overheard this medical emergency over his radio, that the passenger became unconscious, with no vitals in sight. So, Leigh bolted from his post, to provide help.’
13) Air France #AF378 to Detroit is declaring an emergency and diverting
‘UPDATE #5 We have confirmation #AF378 diverted to Keflavik due to a medical emergency. The Boeing 777 should resume its journey to Detroit within one hour.’
That was the last sentence of the story proper, and the only one that mentions the medical nature of the emergency.
14) Ex-Chiefs star Alex Smith recalls ‘helpless’ feeling after daughter’s cancer diagnosis
‘When former Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith announced his retirement in April 2021, he admitted he could have returned for a 17th NFL season.
Instead, Smith was looking forward to spending time with his wife, Elizabeth, and their three kids.’
‘Unfortunately for Smith and his wife, they couldn’t have expected what would happen just 13 months later. Their daughter Sloane was rushed to the hospital and had surgery to remove a malignant brain tumor.’
‘A story in the New York Times said doctors were unable to remove all of the tumor in the first procedure and Sloane underwent a second 10-hour craniotomy earlier this year.
“We found out last fall that essentially that they had missed a piece, that there was a little piece in there left over,” Alex Smith told the New York Times’ Jonathan Abrams.’
15) 93-year-old dies after crashing truck into house in Johnston
‘JOHNSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — A truck drove into a building in Johnston Saturday morning.
Police Chief Mark Vieira said that around 11 a.m. a Ford F-150 traveling west on Greenville Avenue veered off the roadway and struck a residence on Greenville Ave.
Vieira said the 93-year-old driver of the truck had a “medical emergency” and was transported to Rhode Island hospital where he was pronounced dead.’
‘The chief said that the cause of death has not yet been determined, and there were no other injuries reported.’

I know one.
Read the article if you wish.
17) 'Locate the man': Keswick woman who suffered public seizure shares vital info, hopes to find 'heroes'
‘Jessica Vallentyne, 34, from Keswick, said she’s lived a mostly healthy life, other than the depression and anxiety that has been with her since her teenage years.
About three months ago, while at home with her mother and son, she experienced a medical emergency that came out of nowhere.
“All I remember is standing up and being dizzy,” she said. “I fell back and hit my back off the sink counter and started convulsing and biting my tongue.”’
I can picture it. I’ve seen many videos of something like that happening. Way too many.
‘When the paramedics arrived and the episode was over, Vallentyne was combative in regard to the notion that she should seek medical treatment for seizures, instead insisting that she had “just fainted.”
“Since then, I'd been perfectly fine,” she added.
Then, on Aug. 8, while on a trip out to get her son pizza from the plaza at Biscayne Boulevard and The Queensway South, she recalls turning left instead of right, where her car was parked.
“I started to feel some kind of way, but I didn’t recognize (it), now I know it’s called ‘an aura,’” she said. “I imagine it was a subconscious safety manoeuvre to walk instead of (using) my car, but I don’t recall.”
Vallentyne managed to cross the intersection and made it about five houses in before collapsing.
“The next thing I know, I open my eyes and I’m on the ground on Queensway on the sidewalk and there’s a paramedic in front of me,” she added.’
Right. Now check this out:
‘She was asking Jessica a bunch of questions, to which Jessica responded in an interesting way, suggesting to a police officer that she was 17 and to the paramedic that her “mother was controlling me,” making Vallentyne wonder if she reverted to a teenager mindset during the episode.’
Trip out. Brain clots. Gotta be.
‘Although Vellentyne didn’t want to go to the hospital, she was forced to by those in attendance. After feeling better, she once again wanted to go home, but as she went to get up, she once again suffered a seizure.’
‘She has since gone through a number of tests that have been unable to identify an issue.’
Oh, but that doesn’t mean they’re totally baffled.
‘However, a doctor did approach her about the potential that her antidepressant, Wellbutrin (also known as bupropion), can lower a user's “seizure threshold.”’
‘“Everyone I speak to (professionally) says this is the potential reason for (the seizures),” she said.’
‘Vallentyne said part of her motivation for reaching out to the community was also to warn about the potential side effects of the drugs.’
So now she’s warning people about Wellbutrin.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the Wellbutrin people come after her.
18) Falmouth lifeboat called to ill woman on Cornwall beach
‘The RNLI volunteer inshore lifeboat crew were assembling ready to go afloat on exercise on Wednesday evening when at 7pm, they were paged by Falmouth Coastguard following a 999 call for urgent medical assistance to a 34-year-old female on an isolated beach east of East Portholland.’
‘On arrival at thebeach, it was found that the casualty had been transferred by dinghy to the nearby car park, where the casualty was now sat in the family car. The lifeboat dropped the doctor and another crew member ashore to administer casualty care.
After being stabilised by the doctor, the casualty's partner drove her and crew members three minutes up the hill to the awaiting helicopter, where once checked out by the Coastguard paramedic, shewas transferred to the helicopter to be taken to hospital.’
Normalization TROME.
19) Report: ‘Captain America’ Star To Suffer Heart Attack in Upcoming Movie
The headline tells the story.
And we already know the story.
20) Pennsylvania High School QB Needs a ‘Miracle’ After Collapsing Mid-Game, Family Says
‘Mason Martin, a quarterback for Karns City High School, suffered a “significant brain bleed as well as a collapsed lung,” his family told KDKA-TV.’
‘Mr. Vasbinder said the medical emergency led staff members to enforce a series of protocols, including some of which the referee never had to follow in a game before last week’s incident.’
‘“Mason remains in critical condition with little change over the last 36 hours,” her message reads. “The truth is we need a miracle. I’m not saying that to sound grim, but to let you know that we need the strength of your prayers.”’
There’s some discussion of the role of the shots in this article. That’s not so surprising, though, since the article is from NTD, which is part of Epoch Times, I gather, so it’s not exactly super mainstream.
I had to check that when I saw they started talking about the shots.
Adieu
I appreciate you man! "Report: ‘Captain America’ Star To Suffer Heart Attack in Upcoming Movie" FFS! That's a little 'on the nose' as they say. I'm getting so sick of the mockery of the evil ones.
Captain America will have a heart attack? That's so disturbing. Proves entertainment is really programming. This weekend a neighbor drove their car through their garage wall about 50 feet behind my apartment. (Luckily we have detached garages.) I was home and heard a very loud boom but I didn't realize what happened until later. I am so glad it wasn't worse. Construction workers were patching the wall all day yesterday.
