The Rise of the Medical Emergency, Pt. 41
Video gaming, skydiving, playing “touch-footy,” hiking, swimming, investigating, and retiring — these days, everything is just a bit more than it seems. It’s TROME
JUL 1 REPORTS
1) What happened to Markiplier? Streamer shares red eye selfie from hospital on birthday, trolls say 'don't do drugs'
Mathew Aldred probably has a couple guesses:
1a) The Damage to Your Eyes Is From Climate Change
Definitely Not the Jabs. Got the message yet?
Several relevant studies linked in the above post. As for Markiplier:
‘Mark Fischbach, also known as Markiplier, a YouTube sensation, shocked his admirers by sharing a red eye selfie in which he was hospitalized on his birthday. His fans noticed his bloodshot eyes and pale cheeks and reacted to the picture.’
‘His eyes were blood shot, and he was lying in a hospital with a handkerchief covering his eyes, indicating that he had an eye condition. and it's still not known why he was in the hospital in the first place.’
Yyyyyep. Classic medical emergency.
2) ‘Magical person’: Champion Perth skydiver dies in US accident
‘A 29-year-old skydiving champion from Port Kennedy has died in the US while attempting a new skydiving method.
Melissa Porter died after the accident at the Skydive Spaceland Houston facility in Texas on June 24.’
‘Witnesses reportedly saw a parachute deploy before she made a hard landing and went to water before being taken to hospital, where she died.
Investigators said no blunt force trauma was noticeable on her body.’
Several outlets note the hard landing, and what is described as an “uneventful freefall” before it, but only a few include that last important detail, that “no blunt force trauma was noticeable on her body.” You try one of them “swoop” landings too close to the ground — close enough to kill you —. Well, by my sights, that’s gotta leave a mark.
3) Jarryd Hayne caught up in jail emergency after fellow inmate collapses
‘Jarryd Hayne has found himself at the centre of a life-threatening prison emergency during a game of touch footy with other inmates at the Geoffrey Pearce Correctional Centre near Windsor, northwest of Sydney.
The convicted rapist and former NRL superstar was playing footy with around 20 prisoners when one inmate suddenly collapsed in the middle of the game due to a heart attack.’
‘“The inmates had said he just passed out. He tried to get up at one stage but then collapsed again,” prison guard Peter Terry told The Sunday Telegraph.
“He was breathing at that stage, one of the officers was checking his pulse and talking to him, and then all of a sudden he checked out again and there was no pulse so we rolled him over and I started CPR.”
Nurses arrived at the scene a short time later to apply a defibrillator to the man’s chest and continue performing CPR until an ambulance arrived 25 minutes later.
The man was rushed to hospital where he was placed in an induced coma.
He ultimately survived the ordeal and returned to the prison two weeks later to thank the guards involved in saving his life.’
4) Person Rescued After Suffering Medical Emergency on Aguanga Trail
‘A person suffering from a medical emergency was rescued from an inaccessible area in Aguanga Saturday.’
‘Riverside County Sheriff’s Department helicopter Rescue 9 assisted with the rescue and hoisted the patient who was then taken to a hospital by ground ambulance in moderate condition.’
5) Child removed from water in Stoddard after emergency, officials say’
‘A child in Stoddard was rescued after a medical emergency on the water.’
‘First responders said they were called to the scene around noon, and the child had already been brought to shore.
The child was stabilized and taken to the hospital by a DHART helicopter.’
6) Investigation begins after man is found dead in Ottawa
‘A death is under investigation after a man was found dead Saturday morning in Ottawa.
The Ottawa Police Department was sent to East 5th Street around 7 a.m. for reports of a medical emergency. Upon arrival, officers found a 35-year-old man dead.
According to OPD, they are investigating the incident and attempting to contact loved ones.'
Foul play is not suspected and the death is not believed to be a danger to the community.’
7) Hero Down: Fort Worth Police Officer Robert Guerrero Dies After Suffering Medical Emergency
‘Fort Worth Police Department (FWPD) Officer Robert Guerrero died unexpectedly on June 21 after suffering a medical emergency.’
‘His exact cause of death was not immediately released.’
