The Rise of the Medical Emergency Pt. 130 - Mar 23rd - Mar 29th Reports
From the roads to the ferries, and from the seas to the sky, in TROME, there's nowhere to hide.
Pretty wild week. A school bus driver just stopped and let all the kids off in the middle of nowhere, and then just continued driving (Story #1). Another bus driver rescued another bus driver (Story #2), and the the train police rescued the train conductor (Story #3). The driving situation is mental, of course, with one guy crashing into 7 other cars outside of some shop in Texas (Story #4), another one causing a big pile-up on a mountain pass in California (Story #5), and a semi-truck crossed the meridian and caused a head-on collision with another semi-truck in Michigan (Story #6). Another driver just stopped somewhere and got out and died (Story #7), and another one crashed into a UPS store (Story #8). Another driver apparently knocked over an electric pole (Story #9), and yet another one got into another head-on collision with a semi-truck (Story #10). A pickup truck crossed into oncoming traffic resulting in yet another head-on collision, this time with a van (Story #11). A police officer died suddenly on duty (Story #12), and a firefighter suffered a heart attack on duty (Story #13). A couple hikers go down on the trails (Story #14 and #15), and “global warming” took another swimmer at a beach in Florida (Story #16). A high school student was rushed off campus (Story #17) and a two year-old died at home (Story #18). Another hockey game was interrupted by a fan collapsing in the stands (Story #20). Several flights were waylaid, of course, with one passenger apparently dying outright without anyone noticing (Story #23). There was a medical emergency on a commuter train in Canada and everyone’s freaking out because help was nowhere to be found (Story #25). A Canadian ferry also experienced a short delay (Story #26). A guy died at the supermarket somewhere in the UK (Story #27). Australia tried to do a big comedy show only to have someone die in the audience in the middle of the show (Story #28). A blood clot in the brain put a woman into “Locked-In Syndrome” (Story #29). A couple players experienced medical distress at the Miami Open, although it doesn’t sound too serious (Story #30). An actress died suddenly at home (Story #31) and the cause of the singer for Flogging Molly’s ailment earlier this year was revealed (brain hemorrhage) (Story #32). A guy’s dog woke him up in the middle of the night to tell him he was having a stroke (Story #33). A criminal trial was stopped for the second time when the 3rd person so far had a medical emergency (Story #34). Several people were rescued from remote places like islands and atolls (Story #35, Story #36, Story #37). A couple inmates died in prison (Story #39, Story #40). A mega-church pastor reveals the ailment that took him out awhile back — a massive heart attack caused by a blood clot. And finally, a cruise ship put the pedal to the metal in order to get a passenger to the hospital — from the middle of the Atlantic Ocean (Story #41).
Yep. It’s TROME.

What’s going on here?
‘According to the police scanner, the children reported that the bus continued to the west after it left them.’
Okay, so — literally. The bus driver just pulled over and said “Everyone off!”
‘The Reichert bus driver, a 74-year-old Fort Ripley man, was located around Lone Oak Road and St. Mathias Road Southwest and transported to Essentia Health-St. Joseph’s Medical Center with unknown injuries.’
Okay. That was one of the weirdest stories yet.

‘“There was obviously something going on at the back, and we were kind of trying to figure out what was going on. And then people started leaving. And then it became quite obvious that someone was getting CPR,” she said.’

Probably reminded them of someone they knew.
‘“Emergency services were called to a theatre on Lower Esplanade about 9pm. A man, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.”’
Directly beneath the story on the MSN page was this headline:

#29 Locked-in Syndrome: Woman diagnosed with rare disorder after what seemed like a harmless headache
Source: philstarlife.com
‘It all started with what seemed like a harmless headache, but then it turned into a medical emergency that led to a rare disorder within just a few hours.’
‘In an interview with PhilSTAR L!fe, digital creator Mark Fagar shared that his 48-year-old mom Maita was used to having headaches due to high blood pressure.’
‘This time, however, she only felt worse by the hour. The pain continued into the night and around 1:00 a.m. the following day, she experienced “one of the worst headaches of her life.”’
‘But Maita had an episode of severe vomiting at around 3:30 a.m. Minutes later, she started looking weak and confused about what was happening, showing signs of a stroke. It was when Mark knew it was time to seek immediate medical assistance for his mother.’
‘She arrived in the emergency room at 5:00 a.m., and after a few medical tests, it was revealed that a blood clot was formed in her brain.’
Dr. Sucharit Bhakdi, a retired German virologist, warned people at the beginning of covid that the shots will cause blood-clotting, and that blood clots in the brain can cause any kind of symptom. It could be anything. Like this:
‘The incident left Maita paralyzed, unable to control any part of her body except her eyes. "I’m still in shock because I can't believe that the woman I recently sang karaoke with is now in bed, unable to move nor speak,” her son opened up.’
‘Diagnosed with a rare disorder called Locked-in Syndrome, Maita is now only able to communicate with her loved ones through her eyes—like she’s in a "coma" but is aware of her surroundings and feelings, as Mark put it.’
‘While it sounds like something out of a science fiction novel, Locked-in Syndrome is very real and is caused by severe damage to the brainstem, the part of the brain responsible for controlling motor functions and vital bodily processes.’

#30 Miami Open Chaos: Another Star Rushed Off Court as Medical Emergency Strikes Again!
Source: motociclismo.pt
‘In a dramatic turn of events at the Miami Open, tennis star Grigor Dimitrov found himself not only battling his opponent but also the sweltering conditions that left him in need of medical attention after his intense match. Following a thrilling victory over Francisco Cerundolo, Dimitrov was seen seeking immediate medical care, underscoring the brutal impact of Miami’s heat and humidity on players as they push towards the tournament’s final stages.’
‘The Bulgarian powerhouse’s match against Cerundolo stretched nearly three hours, leaving Dimitrov visibly exhausted as he requested a delay in post-match interviews to receive medical evaluation. The 33-year-old, who appeared to leave everything on the court, was aided off by officials after having his vitals thoroughly checked.’
‘It wasn’t just Dimitrov feeling the strain of Miami’s oppressive weather. British sensation Emma Raducanu also faced similar challenges during her match against Pegula. At just 22, Raducanu required medical assistance in the second set, with medics focused on lowering her body temperature. Utilizing ice and chilled towels, they worked to stabilize her condition as she continued to compete under grueling conditions.’
‘Post-match, Raducanu candidly shared her struggles with the extreme heat, confessing, “I just felt really dizzy. I felt faint. The humidity was intense, and the long rallies added to the exhaustion.” Despite rallying in the second set, the environmental toll was evident as Raducanu ultimately succumbed to Pegula in the third set.’
It could have just been the heat.
We’ll remember Raducanu from TROME Pt. 50, where I highlighted the recurring blisters that plagues her at the 2022 Australian Open. Her career took a bit of a spiral since then, although recently I haven’t paid any attention to tennis, except when my man Novak Djokovic, the greatest sports hero of all time, is playing, of course.

‘On Nov, 24, 2024, Jakes, 67, was preaching to his congregation in The Potter’s House of Dallas and on a livestream when he suddenly slumped over on his stool, prompting people to rush to his aid.’
‘“I didn’t really realize what was happening to me onstage until I got to the hospital in an ambulance,” Jakes shared on the Wednesday, March 26, episode of the Today show. “And the doctor leaned over in my ear and said, ‘You’ve had a massive heart attack.’ “’
‘Jakes noted that he didn’t have the traditional symptoms of a heart attack, which made the news surprising to him.’
‘“I just kind of drifted off to sleep. I didn’t know what it was,” he explained. “[The doctor] said five minutes later I’d have been dead on arrival.”’
‘Jakes continued of his health incident, “The right side of my heart had completely stopped giving blood at all. And as long as I was up preaching I felt fine. But when I sat down, the adrenaline dropped and it exposed the fact that I was preaching with half of my heart closed with a clot.”’
Dude straight up had a heart attack from a blood clot.
‘The public figure had to undergo surgery to remove the clot, an experience Jakes said he was awake for.’
‘"Many of you don't realize that you're looking at a miracle,” Jakes told his congregation on Dec. 1.’
A miracle? I’d say that’s a matter of opinion.

[#28 Comedy Festival opening night abruptly cancelled after patron dies mid-show

‘The Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s opening night has abruptly ended mid-show after a patron died during the show.’
Hard to follow that act.]
I have one that might. Joe Rogan talked about a female comic, Heather McDonald, who was joking about how she got vaxxed and didn't have any problem. She said that Jesus must love her the most. Then she promptly passed out on stage! He talks about it and shows the clip at 1:00 on episode #2297, with a couple of Brits, Francis Foster and Konstantin Kisin.
And the beat goes on.
