I gave up on ordering these awhile back. Someone mentioned they would have promoted this or that story to a higher position on the list and it got me to thinking, so I started to order this one and, boy oh boy… really, it’s almost worse than writing about it is thinking about the ranking. A child dies mid-flight here. But a fire department vehicle crashes into the side of building there. A celebrity’s son has Guillain-Barre here, but then an Olympian’s sister dies suddenly at the games there. It’s really all over the place.

#2 Cause of death released for Missouri girl who died after medical emergency onboard flight
Source: 25newsnow.com
‘A cause of death has been determined for an 8-year-old Missouri girl who suffered a medical emergency onboard a flight causing it to divert to Peoria.’ [Emphasis added]
‘In June, Weston was traveling with her family on vacation when she suddenly became ill and then unresponsive in flight.’
‘Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said the death of Sydney Weston of Carl Junction, Missouri was caused by complications from chronic primary adrenalitis in the setting of multiple infections, including strep and enterovirus.
Weston also had duodenitis, which is inflammation in the first part of one’s small intestine, along with thyroiditis, a general term for thyroid gland inflammation.
The three diagnoses are suggestive of an underlying autoimmune disorder, Harwood said.’
No mention of any type of lifelong struggle with an autoimmune disorder. Not much information at all, actually, of course, so that might be reading too much into it. But, it’s an 8 year-old girl that suddenly died on a plane trip. If she had ANY kind of known condition then I have a feeling that condition would be part of the story, if not part of the headline.
It sounds like sudden autoimmune disease to me.

#19 Commentary: I was hospitalised for 24 days due to a medical emergency. It taught me that I can’t keep living life in the fast lane
Source: todayonline.com
Life in the fast lane, eh? Oh, this ought to be good.
‘I used to feel pretty invincible in the sense that I could conquer most physical challenges I set my mind to: 10 half-marathons in a year; long hikes along the Rail Corridor; Saturday runs along the beautiful Robertson Quay; HIIT workouts; near-daily weight routines at home. ’
‘Powered by coffee and supplements, I only slept four hours a night. I was “doing it all” — until a recent emergency hysterectomy brought me into an unexpected (and honestly unwanted) time of rest and recuperation. ’
Caffeine and lack of sleep? At this rate I’m going to have a hysterectomy.
‘But scar adhesions from the hysterectomy led to intestinal obstruction, a medical emergency for which surgery would be too risky.’
So it was 24 days of hospitalization, and I’ll spare you the affectatious details.
But this little sufferer did learn her lessons:
‘I realised that in my pursuit of a healthy body, I was piling workout after workout on a very physically worn-out body.’
A common problem. I imagine.
‘But it was such a vicious cycle: The more I worked out, the more my body needed rest. The more I couldn’t rest, the more I relied on caffeine and supplements.’
‘Kay…
‘In becoming addicted to the adrenaline and endorphins my workouts gave me, my “healthy” habits had become unhealthy.’
Ah. And there it is. Hysterectomy.
‘Despite the many wounds I have sustained — both over the last few weeks as well as long before that — my forced stay in the hospital has brought much-needed restoration and healing for more than just my body.’
There is a little irony in that part about the “forced hospital stay,” isn’t there? But it’s dark irony and I want no part of it. I would say “At least she isn’t baffled,” but I’m afraid this symptom is far worse. The baffled exist in a state of denial. This person exists in the whole next universe of denial. It’s like the membrane of denial got so overcrowded it circled back on itself, and now people are floating around in little denial exosomes.
At least, that’s my take.

#22 Is it heatstroke or COVID? Central Japan emergency medical responders on high alert
Source: msn.com
‘Medical personnel in central Japan are on guard as the "11th wave" of coronavirus infections and the intense summer heat simultaneously hit the country, making it difficult to immediately distinguish between heatstroke and COVID-19 symptoms.’
‘Shinichiro Shibata, head of the research institute's microbiology department, is baffled, saying, "The risk can be reduced by wearing masks and washing your hands. However, wearing a mask in this unusually hot weather can lead to heatstroke, so we have to leave it to the discretion of each individual."’
I can’t even. These people.
‘Shibata apparently heard that some people suffering from suspected heatstroke came to medical institutions for treatment but eventually it turned out they had the coronavirus. Even if heatstroke is suspected, protective measures against the virus cannot be relaxed.’
Remember all that about how closely the symptoms of covid match those of heatstroke? Me neither.
Let’s hope this summer wave of respiratory illness… oh, nevermind.

The article has the video of the kid running out and getting help, but in my browser, at least, the video isn’t available. I don’t know if it’s adblockers or if the video was taken down.
