The Rise of the Medical Emergency, Pt. 64 - Jul 24th Reports
Singing, flying, hiking, swimming, driving, concert-going, being. All off limits. It's TROME
1) Tori Kelly Rushed To The Hospital After Collapsing At Dinner With Friends
This is such obvious shot injury. What are we even doing here?
‘Grammy Award-winning singer Tori Kelly has been hospitalized after reportedly collapsing while grabbing dinner with friends over the weekend.
According to TMZ, sources said that Kelly was enjoying dinner with some friends in downtown Los Angeles on Sunday (July 23) when her heart started beating really fast and she passed out "for a while."’ [Emphasis added]
‘[She] is continuing to receive care and has been in and out of consciousness, TMZ reports. Doctors have allegedly discovered clots in her legs and lungs as well as around other organs in what sources claim is a "really serious" situation. They are also trying to see if there are any clots around her heart.
As of Monday afternoon, no other details regarding the medical emergency have been shared.’ [Emphasis added]
2) ‘I had to learn to speak, like I was a child’: Lira on how she recovered from stroke
‘Lira might be enjoying beautiful weather in Amsterdam right now, but the singer has had a torrid journey after suffering a stroke last year.’ [Emphasis added]
‘Just before the beginning of the interview host Mabotja put a disclaimer to sensitise the audience, explaining that Lira suffered a stroke and has had to re-learn how to speak because the stroke brought with it a speech impediment.’ [Emphasis added]
Damn, that’s sad.
‘When the host asks Lira how she is, the songstress says she’s excited because she can speak. “I’m here to share my story and I can speak well,” says Lira.
“I get surprised with how much progress I’m making and today is a good day,” says Lira uttering words little by little.’
Brutal.
3) Family member ‘beyond grateful' Stow plane crash victims expected to recover
‘Three people are expected to recover after a small plane crashed on Sunday in Stow, Massachusetts, leading to an ongoing investigation that is being headed up by the National Transportation Safety Board.’
The plane went down in some people’s back yard. One of them is being interviewed for the linked article:
‘"The man who was in there was talking to me, and I could see he was in a tough spot and he said he was having trouble breathing," Tye Morancy said, noting he was relieved as soon as he heard the sirens getting closer, knowing that help was on the way.’ [Emphasis added]
‘A cause — or suspected cause — has not been shared.’
You would think, after a plane crash, you would be worried about something like your legs, not your lungs. A plane crash that causes “trouble breathing” would probably also cause trouble “staying conscious” or “speaking.” I don’t think I’m reading too much into it here. That sounds like a medical emergency. I don’t who “the man who was in there” refers to, of course. It might not even be the pilot we’re talking about here.
Anyway, moving on.
4) Man dies on hiking trail
This is the same story I covered in the last TROME. This report has more details. It was a medical emergency. They are blaming the heat.
‘A 60-year-old man died Sunday while hiking in the Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve area.
Rescuers were called to a medical emergency at 4:15 p.m. The victim was hiking with a family member who made the emergency call. The victim was located just west of the waterfall. When rescuers arrived, CPR was in progress, but the man died before he could make it to the hospital.’
‘“It was humid, but our reporting from the relative, when we confirmed with him, he said he believed it was a medical condition and then a fall from the medical condition. But any condition like that that you have can be exacerbated by being out there,” San Diego Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Michael Howell said to FOX 5 on Monday.
Temperatures were in the high 80s, and rescuers are warning the public that more hot days are ahead, with temperatures expected to pick up over the next few days.’ [Emphasis added]
Yep. Sounds like the heat.
‘“There are certain times when you should just stay inside, a cool area. We advise everybody to stay hydrated and hike with friends, family, or notify somebody where you’re going to be when you are going out,” Howell added.’ [Emphasis added]
Less than useless.
5) Man suffers medical emergency in pool at Wilkins Township hotel
Another suspicious drowning.
‘Officials rescued a man from a hotel swimming pool in Wilkins Township on Monday.
Paramedics were called to the Comfort Inn on Rodi Road around 2 p.m.
Officials said an adult swimmer seemed to have suffered some sort of medical emergency in the water. He survived and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.’ [Emphasis added]
6) 19-year-old dies after drowning at Sandy Pond Beach in Ayer Saturday
Another suspicious drowning.
‘A 19-year-old died after drowning at Sandy Pond Beach in Ayer Saturday, according to the Ayer Police Department.
Around 3:12 p.m. Saturday, officials were alerted from a medical call box that there was a potential medical emergency and water rescue at Sandy Pond Beach. The on-duty lifeguards said a swimmer was unaccounted for.
The swimmer has only been identified as a 19-year-old man from Ayer.’
‘“After several minutes of searching, the swimmer was located in approximately 6 to 8 feet of water,” the police department said.
Officials began resuscitation efforts and the 19-year-old was taken to Nashoba Valley Medical Center. He was later moved to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center by air.
The 19-year-old died Saturday evening, police said.’
‘The incident remains under investigation.’
7) 19-year-old dies after being pulled from Willamette River at Keizer Rapids Park
Another suspicious drowning.
‘A 19-year-old who went underwater and didn't resurface in the Willamette River at Keizer Rapids Park was pronounced dead on Sunday, according to the Keizer Police Department.
Filemon Villavisencio Santos was swimming at the park Saturday when he jumped off a dock and never surfaced, police said.’
‘“At this time, it is unknown why Santos did not resurface,” the news release added.’
8) Elderly Queens Woman Suffers Medical Emergency, Dies In Crash: NYPD
‘A 76-year-old woman died in a car crash after she suffered a medical episode while driving in Cambria Heights over the weekend, police said.
Winsome Rose, from Queens Village, crashed against a wall on 112th Avenue and the Cross Island Parkway after she suffered a medical emergency behind the wheel on Saturday, July 22, about 11:15 a.m., the NYPD said.
She was taken to North Shore University Hospital, where she died after sustaining trauma to the head and torso, authorities said.’
9) Crash on Route 28 sends 3 to area hospitals
‘A multi-vehicle crash on state Route 28 sent three people to area hospitals Saturday.’
‘A preliminary investigation at the scene revealed that a Chevrolet Silverado truck with a pontoon boat in tow was parked on the west shoulder facing south on Route 28.
Two people, Jonathan S. Bashi, 44, of Brooklyn, and Robert M. Everett, 70, of Maryland, were outside of the vehicle adjusting the boat trailer.
Shirley K. Bennett, 77, of Milford, was traveling south in a Nissan Rogue compact SUV when she drifted out of her lane, striking the two people on the shoulder, the pontoon boat and the truck.’
‘No arrest was made on scene. Citations are not public information, according to Dembinska.’
10) First look inside Lemay home destroyed by car
Well, if you wanted to know what it’s like to have a zombie driver fly into the side of your house while you’re there, then click on the link and read on. I’m just leaving this here for the curious. This is the fallout from the shots.
Can’t really put words to it because there is no parallel in all of human history.
‘“At the initial impact, you could see the house shift completely and actually go back and you could almost see the concussive breathing of it. It was intense. It was quite an impact,” Wentzel said.’
‘Her nephew was just one brick away from being seriously injured or worse.
“He was right here on this bed, sitting in the middle of the bed playing on his tablet. And we were right in there in the dining room. And what had happened, the whole bed just moved all the way in here,” she said, pointing toward the dining room. “He was just surrounded with rubble and there was bricks on the bed that missed him. It was just amazing how we were saved.”’
I mean, read on, if you wish. What an insane day. There’s a good video report in the linked article.
11) Man dies after medical emergency at Hard Rock Stadium during Rolling Loud, police say
‘A man died Sunday afternoon after needing medical attention during Miami’s hip-hop festival Rolling Loud over the weekend, according to authorities.’
‘Paramedics then took the patient — later identified as 23-year-old Jordan Petrocchi — to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he died around 3 p.m. Sunday […]’
“We are still waiting on the toxicology report and a report from the medical examiner’s office,” Sierra said Monday afternoon.
Miami-Dade Police Department’s Homicide Bureau is investigating. Authorities haven’t said what caused him to require medical assistance.’ [Emphasis added]
12) Four local heroes awarded Red Cross certificate for life-saving actions in Gillett
‘Four people were recognized for making a difference with their heroic actions.
Jennifer Fenendael, Keri Hicks, Kurt Hicks, and Claudette Tipton received the Red Cross Certificate of Extraordinary Personal Action Sunday in Gillett.
Back in April, Wayne Strei had a medical emergency, causing him to become unresponsive.
The four are credited with saving his life through CPR and the use of an AED.’
The Grim Reaper: “Why do I even get out of bed some days?”
Adieu
Unbelievable how that car took flight across four houses and demolished their home. Thank God their lives were spared. It's interesting how this gracious man said "she meant no harm." The driver must have jammed the gas pedal. It's hard to imagine how this could happen on a relatively calm residential street.
