The Rise of the Medical Emergency, Pt. 25, Jun 15th Reports
All shotted shall avoid: barbecuing, child care centers, manholes, jails, police work, living in a place, and driving to the hospital
Very random landscape today. A barbecue duo, brother and sister, both died around age 50, about 1 year apart. Then we have the story of an infant that passed away at a child care center, a guy that got stuck in a manhole, a woman in jail, another K-9 canine, a guy just being, and a guy that ended up driving into a hospital lobby.
1a) LeAnn Mueller, Barbecue Groundbreaker, Dies at 51
‘LeAnn Mueller, talented photographer and co-owner of the renowned Austin barbecue joint la Barbecue, died early Wednesday morning. She was 51.
I spoke this morning with her wife, Alison Clem, who goes by Ali. She said—as cliche as it sounds—LeAnn was doing what she loved right to the end. The couple were preparing for an event planned for Tuesday evening. “We were cooking, and I was juicing some lemons for her hummus,” Ali said, playing the day back in her memory. LeAnn suffered a sudden medical emergency and was rushed to the hospital. “It happened in seconds,” Ali said, still in shock.’ [Emphasis added]
So sad. Wait, there’s more:
‘Even when her brother, John Mueller, who passed away just eighteen months ago at the age of 52 […]’ [Emphasis added]
‘Early last year, I went to la Barbecue for a celebration of life for John Mueller, LeAnn’s brother. They closed the restaurant down to remember a larger-than-life pitmaster who had left the world far too early.’ [Emphasis added]
Oh. So, what happened?
1b) Legendary Texas BBQ pitmaster John Mueller dies at age 52 in Frisco
‘Barbecue pitmaster John Mueller, a member of the Mueller barbecue dynasty, died at his home in Frisco at age 52.
Daniel Vaughn, barbecue editor at Texas Monthly, broke the news December 16 on Twitter. Vaughn reports that Mueller died after a long illness.’ [Emphasis added]
Oh.
2) State suspends Hillsdale child care provider's license after infant dies
‘The death of an infant who was in the care of a Hillsdale-area day care on June 1 is under investigation by law enforcement and state licensing officials.’ [Emphasis added]
‘A child was found face down with a blanket over its head and blue lips after being placed in a play yard on the morning on June 1, the order suspending Pickford's license and giving notice to revoke the license said. The child's exact age was redacted – blacked out in the order – but was given in months. Pickford had last checked on the child about 25 minutes before, and the blanket was between the child's legs and near their face as the child slept on their side.’ [Emphasis added]
Okay. Maybe it was the blanket.
‘Pickford yelled for a staff member to call 911 and performed CPR on the child until emergency medical personnel arrived about 18 minutes later, the order said. The child arrived at an undisclosed medical facility at 10:51 a.m. and was pronounced dead at 11:17 a.m.’ [Emphasis added]
‘An autopsy report is pending, the report said, but the investigator was told there were no signs of abuse or trauma.’ [Emphasis added]
3) St. Johns County Fire Rescue responded to a worker stuck in a manhole
‘St. Johns County Fire and Rescue responded to a medical call where a worker experienced a medical emergency while working on a manhole.’ [Emphasis added]
‘Using confined rope and rescue techniques, the worker was safely removed and transported to an area hospital for further treatment.’ [Emphasis added]
4) Woman dies after medical emergency at local jail
‘[…] at about 4 a.m. on Thursday morning, jail officers were notified that a woman was having a medical emergency in one of the female dorms. The officers and medical personnel responded and administered CPR, and emergency medical services arrived just after 4 a.m. and continued to administer aid. The woman was pronounced dead at 4:39 a.m’ [Emphasis added]
5) Olmsted County K-9 officer dies of medical emergency
‘The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of its K-9 Officer, Ranger.
Officials say the four-year-old Belgian Malinois and his handler were training for an upcoming trial Sunday when Ranger suffered a medical emergency. Ranger was taken to an animal hospital and succumbed to his illness.’ [Emphasis added]
‘Deputies said Ranger was taken way before his time.’ [Emphasis added]
I bet he was. I don’t know if all the dogs are shotted, but this isn’t the first K-9 sudden medical emergency resulting in death I’ve come across. I can’t find info about their shotted status.
6) Man dies after medical emergency in Nuneaton
‘A man has died after a medical emergency in Nuneaton.’ [Emphasis added]
‘Nothing could be done to save the man […]’
‘"We were called to a medical emergency at a private address in Hartshill, Nuneaton just before 7.40am," a WMAS spokesman said. "Two ambulances were sent to the scene where on arrival, they found a male patient.
“Sadly, it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save him, and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”’ [Emphasis added]
When experiencing a medical emergency, it might be wise to get a lift.
7) Driver dead after crashing into Dublin Methodist Hospital
‘One person has died on Thursday after crashing into a Dublin hospital’s emergency department entrance.
Authorities responded to OhioHealth Dublin Methodist Hospital at around 12:40 p.m. on Thursday after a car crashed into the building, according to the Dublin Police Department. The driver was experiencing an unknown medical emergency while driving and was pronounced dead at the scene.’ [Emphasis added]
Adieu.
