#2 Man dies after falling onto third rail at MBTA subway station
Source: wcvb.com
On the one hand, guy might have been drunk or high.
But on the other hand, he might not have been, and then — what a way to go. Slandered by the authorities when, in fact… maybe you were just only trying to do your part.
‘BOSTON — An adult male died after stumbling onto the electrified third rail at the MBTA’s Park Street Station, MBTA Transit Police said.’
‘The man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.’
‘Transit Police said their preliminary investigation suggests the man appeared to be impaired and/or under the influence of some intoxicant.’
#3 ‘Tragic loss’: Sonoma County firefighter dies after suffering medical emergency
Source: sfchronicle.com
Different firefighter from the one from the last episode.
Firefighting is getting to be about as dangerous as high school football.
‘A Sonoma County firefighter suffered a medical emergency and died unexpectedly Friday.’
‘Rancho Adobe Fire District Capt. Kyle Heard, 43, was about to head to work from his home in Santa Rosa when he suffered the medical emergency, Battalion Chief Herb Wandel said Sunday. After 911 was called, Heard was treated by paramedics and taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Fire Chief Jeff Veliquette said.’
‘Heard was a 20-year veteran of the fire department, which covers Penngrove, Liberty Valley and Cotati in southern Sonoma County. He was promoted to captain a year and a half ago, Wandel said.’
If he’d made it to work, then we could expect an autopsy. As it is — who knows?
#4 BCSO deputy experiences medical emergency during traffic stop, sheriff’s office says
Source: ksat.com
‘BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – A Bexar County sheriff’s deputy experienced a medical emergency shortly after initiating a traffic stop early Saturday morning.’
‘Emergency personnel responded to the scene. The sheriff’s office said CPR was administered to the deputy.’
‘The deputy’s pulse returned before they were transported to a nearby hospital, BCSO said.’
‘The nature of the deputy’s medical emergency and the reason for the traffic stop are not yet known. No other injuries were reported.’
Well, let’s hope everyone’s alright.
You have to wonder if the guy still got the ticket.

Well, good on ‘em.

#7 Swiss Boeing 777 stuck in grass at Astana after diverting for medical emergency
Source: flightglobal.com
Butterfly effect.
‘A Swiss International Air Lines Boeing 777-300ER with 319 passengers and 18 crew on board suffered a runway mishap in Astana after diverting to the Kazakh capital due to a medical emergency.’
‘Shortly after the aircraft, operating as flight LX161 from Tokyo to Zurich, landed, it ran off the pavement and was mired in muddy grass. ’
‘“The aircraft in Astana is being inspected on site for damage caused by the turnaround manoeuvre,” Swiss says. The airline adds that it had set up a task force with specialists from all relevant departments to assist the passengers and crew. But because Swiss does not have personnel in Astana, ground handling of the aircraft and passengers “was delayed by around four hours”.’
‘The incident had knock-on effects for Swiss’s international network. The carrier cancelled flights to and from Los Angeles on 18 August, as no further reserve aircraft was available after the 777 departed for Vienna. Its flight to Bangkok was delayed by “several hours” and a flight to Sao Paulo postponed from Monday to Tuesday.’ [Emphasis added]
‘“Further delays or cancellations will depend on the return of the Boeing 777 from Astana and its operational capability,” the company adds. “Swiss is continuing to focus all available resources on minimising the impact on flight operations and thus on its passengers.”’
One little medical emergency later.
Alright, we have to have a discussion about the “heat.”
#8 Extreme heat takes a toll at Colorado airshow: Over 100 people fall ill
Source: usatoday.com
‘On Saturday afternoon the temperatures reached the upper 80s, according to the National Weather Service.’
I’m not going deep in the weeds on this, but according to, um, weatherspark.com, the air’s pretty dry in that part of the world:
‘The perceived humidity level at Colorado Springs Airport, as measured by the percentage of time in which the humidity comfort level is muggy, oppressive, or miserable, does not vary significantly over the course of the year, remaining a virtually constant 0% throughout.’
It’s dry. And a dry 80 degrees is what we call “nice,”, with the upper 80’s just starting to get noticeably warm, and reporting-wise, noticeably ambiguous. “89 degrees” sounds worse than “86,” so even though that’s splitting hairs, it’s still there. But regardless, even the low 90’s in very dry weather is very easy for most people to handle. So, what in carnation is going on?
And, yes, just as we’ve all been saying for — oh, my — way too long now — is definitely coming true. They are blaming global warming.
So let’s dig just a touch into this story.
‘Extreme heat at a Colorado airshow led to at least 10 people being hospitalized and about 100 needing medical treatment on Saturday afternoon, officials said.’
That’s a lot of people.
‘The majority of the people were taken to the hospital because of heat-related illnesses, and a few were hospitalized because of other medical emergencies, such as seizures.’
A few seizures?
One seizure — that’s not news, especially. Two gets interesting. What’s “a few?” I think “and there were also a few seizures” is a far more eye-catching headline than what they went with.
So, we have “several” people going into seizures after exposure to moderate heat, and several more experiencing “heat-related symptoms” after such exposure. And, of course, we have a media telling us at the same time that the heat was actually extreme. A media that tacitly admits to us an aberration — a surge of seizure events at this airshow — and drowns that newsworthy reporting with… lies about the weather.
The weather.
#9 Taylor Swift's show hits pause due to medical emergency
Source: thenews.com.pk
‘Taylor Swift’s support band was forced to halt their performance due to a medical emergency.’
‘During the [show] on Saturday, August 17, the American rock band Paramore suddenly stopped their performance midway after a fan sought immediate medical assistance.’
‘After Hayley Williams spotted a fan in dire need of medical help, she turned to her band and asked them to stop the show at once.’
‘[She] quickly ensured if everyone in the crowd was doing well.’
‘In response to her question, the packed stadium fell silent as the security escorted the fan safely.’ [Emphasis added]
Rock’n’roll in the age of TROME.
